20 Private label products to start selling in Zimbabwe

What are private label products?

Private label products are those manufactured by one company for sale under another company’s brand. Simply put, a private label product has your brand name on it but is manufactured by someone else. Some big brands have become so successful private labeling. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a get rich quick scheme, this might not be for you..infact is there a get rich quick scheme? You might help me on that one. I know getting rich requires a lot of hard work, lots of failures and CONSISTENCE unless you were born with a silver plate.

Where to get white label/private label products?

If you have been thinking of buying products locally, just forget about it unless you REALLY know if customers will buy those products. Why? Because its more likely that those products are cheap enough and not easy to markup. And secondly, they are more likely to be abundantly available in brick and mortar stores-making them even harder to sell. So where do i get ‘cheap’ (Cheap doesn’t mean poor quality, though its sometimes associated-haha), unique private label products to sell? Welcome to China my friend! I mean..i am not in China and you don’t have to go to China too :)) You might have heard about AliExpress and Alibaba, thats where you can easily find a good suppliers at the lowest rate. I recommend dealing with verified businesses otherwise some “businesses” there are just for drop shipping.
Before you decide to contact a manufacturer, make sure to check all the positive and negative reviews the manufacturer has on their page. When searching for a supplier, take note of the supplier’s minimum order as well. Lets say you want to your own smartphone brand. All you need to to is search for manufactures on Alibaba who sell white labeled products. Ussualy, you will need to contact them first, make a deal, send them your desired specifications, logos/brand name etc and they will ship.

Here is the most difficult part: selling the products. However, it shouldn’t be! If it is, you are doing something wrong. Tip: Remember you buy these products not because YOU like them but they are liked by your customers.Anyway, lets talk about Where to sell your products.

1.Ownai

I guess you already know what Ownai so i will jump into detail. All you need to do is create an Ad on Ownai. If you are going to go for free, you are allowed to post about 20 ads or so but you can also go for paid ads if you are willing to spend a little extra money. You can as well open a shop on Ownai so that customers will buy directly without having to contact you first, its paid as well.

Ownai Pros and Cons

+Its a well established and fairly popular marketplace in Zimbabwe.
+You can sell quickly if you can afford paying for Advertising.
+Free limited Ads for Econet subscribers.
+Easy and straightforward way to list your goods.
-You cannot build a big and reliable brand by just listing your goods on Ownai.

2.Creating your own Online Shop.

This is the most reliable way to build and get your brand noticed quickly. You can use this method together with other Methods like selling on Ownai. Creating an online shop is easy if you are willing to get your hands dirty by learning to code, learning WP etc. However, we can do the dirty work for you while you focus on your Business.

Having your own Online Shop Pros and Cons

+Low setting up cost compared to physical store
+Flexibility
+Your brand will be noticed quickly
+Store is open for 24/7-Double sales
+Ditch some costs like rentals,Electricity etc
-A website comes with its own expenses like hosting, though having an online shop is way way cheaper than having a physical store, you are still not immune from some costs.
-Getting your online store well known and trusted can take some time: If you are not persistent, you are more likey to fail.

3.Selling in Person

If you want, you can sell your branded products in person. I am not giving you a green light to go without a website. You can do this along with other methods. Tip:97% of consumers worldwide go online to research about local business and although Zimbabwe contributes a very small percentage to that 97%, having your business online still maters even if the website isn’t an online store.
People visit your website when they want to know something or do something. They also expect immediate gratification, which means visitors should be able to answer three questions within three seconds of landing on your website:Who are you?,What do you do/offer? and How do I contact you? So if you are only going to sell in person, atleast have a basic website.

4.Listing on Other Marketplaces

Luckily, we got a number of Marketplaces where you can list your products totally for free. These include Classifieds.co.zw and many more. Just list your product there and wait for customers to contact you.

So, this is it.We can continue talking about it in the comments section below. Goodluck with your private label business. Remember: BE CONSISTENT!
